A man is accused of following a teen girl from her school bus stop to her home. He had no idea, though, that her Army veteran father had returned home — and he was ready to take care of business.

A terrifying encounter for a local teenager prompted the school system to issue a warning to parents and kids to be on the lookout. David Roberts, 28, was arrested in connection with a home invasion in the 14000 block of Arcola.

Mike Oliver, a father of 15 and an Army veteran, was not pleased when he discovered a man in his Livonia, Michigan, house on a Monday afternoon. According to Fox 2 Detroit, the man allegedly followed his teenage daughter from her school bus stop to their home. “The door will remain open. “Then I heard her speak,” Oliver recounted. “I get up, go to my door, and there’s a guy in there.”

Oliver’s daughter had realized something was wrong after getting off the bus. She instantly knew she was being watched, and they followed her as she headed home. A man approached her as she neared her front door. According to authorities, he followed her into the porch and asked whether her parents were home before following her into the house, according to WXYZ.

Luckily, Mike Oliver was sitting in the living room, waiting for his 15-year-old, 10th-grade daughter to return home from Franklin High School, when he found the man, who appeared to be in his 30s, had followed his daughter home. When Oliver realized this, he asked the man directly what he was doing on his property.

Rather than responding, the suspect attempted to flee the house. Oliver, on the other hand, was not going to let him get away so lightly. The Army veteran immediately followed the individual, subsequently identified by authorities as 27-year-old Livonia resident David Roberts. Roberts did not make it very far.

In fact, when he battled with him in the front yard, Oliver stopped him before he even made it off his land. “Grabbed him by the hair,” Oliver recalled, describing the moment he stopped the man in his tracks. “He was twisting like an alligator, and he got away.” He ran around the corner.”

Despite the fact that the suspect originally escaped his hands, the watchful father was unconcerned. Mike Oliver jumped in his truck and followed David Roberts around the neighborhood. Oliver’s 19-year-old son and neighbors also got involved, seeking to track down Roberts, while Oliver dialed 911 while on the hunt for the perpetrator.

Within minutes, a large number of officers came and discovered David Roberts in a nearby backyard. He was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and assaulting a police officer. His bond was set at 10% of $100,000, but the Army veteran father felt he got off lightly.

“He could be lying there on the ground today,” Oliver remarked, referring to Roberts and what might have happened to him. “Things could have turned out far worse for him.” But it’s not about being right here; it’s about doing the right thing,” the Army veteran remarked.

Although the teenager is safe, she did not escape the event undamaged. Instead, she has been left terrified and unwilling to attend school. “This year, my daughter is doing well in school,” Cindy Oliver, the Franklin High School 10th grader’s mother, revealed. “She didn’t want to attend to school today because she was worried for her life.”

Following the incident, both parents and children are being urged to be cautious of their surroundings. It is also encouraged that schoolchildren, regardless of age, walk to and from their residence with a friend or, even better, in a group. If they observe someone or something strange, they should report it to an adult or contact 911, and if they feel terrified or threatened, they should flee. It may appear to be common knowledge, yet this simple reminder is much required. There are monsters among us, and they must be dealt with.
