“Every possible clue is being investigated – but so far there are none.”
For several years, the sculpture had stood for years on the 1738 meter Grünten mountain in the Allgäu region, but at the weekend it has suddenly disappeared without a trace.
The homage to male genitalia had gained its celebrity status in recent years as a destination for hikers and even appeared on Google Maps where it is classified as a “cultural monument.”.
Police are investigating the mysterious disappearance of a wooden penis “monument” about two meters in height in the Allgäu region.
According to the Guardian, the wooden penis sculpture went missing in late November after it stood for years on the 5,700-foot high mountain top for years.
However, there is not enough knowledge about how it got there, but according to the local lore, the sculpture was made as a prank birthday present for a young man whose family didn’t appreciate his gift, and it was too difficult to move, so the family left the 200kg sculpture undisturbed.
Now the giant phallic monument had disappeared just as mysteriously as it first appeared on the German mountain. Now all that’s left in the place is just a pile of sawdust.
“Someone must have sawed it over in a cloak and dagger operation,” said the owner of the nearby lodge.
The disappearance of something ‘monumental’ has left the locals sad, the mayor of the nearby town Retternbeg described the missing sculpture case as a “great pity,” since they’ve lost their unusual attraction that helped make their area one of a unique tourists attractions.
Holger Stabik from the police headquarters in Kempter said that a preliminary investigation has been started. However, police are still faced with the mystery, whether this is a criminal offense or not? “We do not know whether this is a criminal offense.”
Because so far the owner of the sculpture is not known, and no party can thus claim damages. It’s possible that even the owner himself had picked up the penis sculpture again.
“If everyone was chatting about the wooden penis this year, then we just had to do something, ” owner of Bernhard Göhl, who claimed that “insiders” in the area knew the culprit behind the wooden penis’ legendary disappearance and appearance.
Although somehow the penis sculpture became a sort of landmark, it was never intended to become a public attraction by the local government. A police spokesperson said that they did not know whether the missing sculpture was considered a criminal offense.
Holger Stabik said, “Every possible clue is being investigated – but so far there are none.”
There is however one odd thing that sticks out, that the penis sculpture had been knocked from its pedestal a few weeks before it disappeared.
Whether it was a coincidence, or not, nobody knows for sure. The police have not implied any connection between these two incidents. In the meantime, hikers will have to just watch the natural scenery at the mountain instead.
